STEAM Saturday – Fun with Static Electricity! (10-29-2022)

Are you looking for an easy science experiment to do with your child?  Show them the power of electricity with this simple activity that you can do with items around your house!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A comb
  • Toilet paper
  • Other small objects like dirt or small sequins
  • A smooth surface
  • Water (optional)
  • A balloon (optional)

First, tear your toilet paper up into small pieces.  Then, have your child rub the comb through their hair to build up a static charge.  Hold the comb over the toilet paper pieces and watch what happens!

You can ask your child questions to help make the experiment more scientific.  Check out the experiment and the science from STEAMsational HERE.

As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!

We’ll see you right back here next Saturday for another STEAM Saturday activity!  Scroll through the rest of our website to learn how Critchlow Adkins is Building Brighter Futures for the children and families we serve!
