You’ve heard of a volcano, but have you ever heard of an APPLE-CANO?? Put a fall twist on a classic chemistry experiment with this fun and easy activity! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Apples
- Baking Soda
- Vinegar
- A fizz-catching container to do the experiment in (think plate, tray, or baking dish)
- A knife (for you) to cut a hole in the apple
This is a great way to introduce your little one to simple chemistry. Here’s how it works:
Put your apple on your fizz-catching dish and cut a hole in the top, reaching approximately halfway down the apple. Add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda inside the hole. Pour the vinegar into the hole and watch the two substances interact to cause a fizzy explosion.

As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
