Although we are coming out of the deep freeze, we’ve still got many more weeks of winter to come, so we’ve got more Winter STEAM for you on this STEAM Saturday! When the weather is cold and your stuck indoors, it can be a challenge to find activities that will keep your child engaged. We’ve got a great one today from Experiential Learning Depot that is low-prep, and will have your child having fun while honing his/her engineering skills.
Challenge your child to build a tool that will rescue an animal! Place a stuffed animal or animal figurine at one end of a room. Measure 15 feet away from the animal and put down a piece of masking or painter’s tape on the floor. Your child’s challenge will be to use items around the house to build a tool he/she can use to rescue the animal… But here’s the catch: the tape line cannot be crossed!
If you are doing this challenge with a younger child, it may be fun to come up with a back story about why the animal needs saving to give your little one extra motivation.
You can help your child by gathering some materials to get his/her mind rolling. Think paper towel or toilet paper rolls, tape, cardboard, legos or other building blocks, etc. Of course, the sky’s the limit, so allow your kiddo to let his/her imagination run wild and think of creative uses for all kinds of materials.

As always, be as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
