Today is World Baking Day! Baking can involve all of the elements of STEAM:
Science: Through baking, we explore chemistry and the reactions that happen when we mix ingredients together.
Technology: We learn how to use new technological tools, like mixers, thermometers, blenders, ovens, and more.
Engineering: Bakers are often engineers when they are building creative cake and pastry designs.
Art: Decorating cakes and cookies involves lots of artistic expression and talent.
Math: We need math to measure ingredients and make sure our recipes come out perfectly!
What better way to celebrate World Baking Day than to bake together?
Before heading to the kitchen, learn more about the Science of Baking from the one and only, Ada Twist Scientist.
Now that you know a little more about how baking works, it’s time to put on those aprons and do some baking! You can choose your favorite family recipe, or head to Tovla, Jr. for some fun baking-related science experiments. Either way, you will spend World Baking Day learning and having a great time together!!
As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
We’ll see you right back here next Saturday for another STEAM Saturday activity! Scroll through the rest of our website to learn how Critchlow Adkins is Building Brighter Futures for the children and families we serve!
