Halloween is just a couple of weeks away, and we’ve got a fun, Halloween-themed STEAM activity that you can do at home with your toddler or preschooler! This activity is extremely simple, and can help your child develop their hand-eye coordination, patience, and problem-solving skills.
All you need for Tubes and Pumpkins is… You guessed it! Cardboard tubes and mini pumpkins!
Collect several cardboard toilet paper or paper towel tubes from around your house and buy the same number of mini-pumpkins. Find a firm, flat piece of flooring in your house preferably not on carpet) and stand your cardboard tubes up.
Challenge your child to balance one mini pumpkin on each tube. Perhaps start by setting a tube and pumpkin up to demonstrate what you are asking your child to do. This exercise can be quite challenging for a little one and requires a lot of patience. It is a good opportunity to help learn about working through frustration.
Once your child has balanced all of the pumpkins on the tubes, it’s time for the most fun part… They get to knock them all down!
This is a great activity that you and your child can do over and over while you are getting in the fall spirit!

As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
