We’re at the height of the summer heat, and that probably means lots of time spent at the pool! We’re guessing you might have a few extra pool noodles laying around the house these days. If you’ve got one to spare, you and your child can explore the science of reflection by building a Pool Noodle Periscope!
For this neat experiment, you’ll need some supplies. If you don’t have some of these laying around the house, you’re likely to find them at your local dollar store:
- A pool noodle, of course! – Pick one that’s as straight as possible
- A marker
- Scissors or a knife for cutting the pool noodle
- 2 small round mirrors
- A protractor
- Tape
- Glue
You’ll need to use your math skills to measure your lengths and angles, and make sure that there is always adult supervision when using the scissors or knife. When you’re done, your little one will be able to run around and explore the world from a “different angle”.

As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
