We’re willing to bet that your little one LOVES dinosaurs! Today, we have an awesome experiment you can do with your child that combines dinos and simple chemistry! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Baking Soda
- Water
- Food Coloring
- Medicine Syringe
- White Vinegar
- Casserole Dish (or similar container)
- Dish Soap
- Small Dinosaur Toys
- Parchment Paper
- Rubber Gloves and Safety Glasses (optional)
You might want to use gloves if you have them so you can avoid having multi-colored hands after the experiment is over! First, color your baking soda. Then, carefully add water to make a paste so it will stick together.
Next, take a palm full of paste and form it into a ball. Press a dinosaur into the ball, and use more paste to cover up the dinosaur until it looks like you’re holding an egg. Place the egg on parchment paper on a baking sheet and put it in the freezer to set. You should be able to take them out after an hour, but you can also leave them in the freezer overnight if you want.
When it’s time to hatch your eggs, set them in your casserole or other dish and sprinkle some dish soap on the bottom of the dish. Then, put some of your vinegar in a bowl and give your child a syringe. Have them squirt the vinegar onto your dinosaur eggs, and watch what happens. The baking soda and vinegar will react with one another, slowly revealing your dinos!
