Tomorrow, we’ll join together with our community for the Conor’s Project Sporting Clay Tournament and one of our favorite Eastern Shore summer traditions – a crab feast! This is the perfect time for some crab-related STEAM. You and your engineer-in-training can create hours of fun when you build your own Crab Claw Game!
Before getting into our STEAM challenge, get inspired while reading A House For A Hermit Crab, by Eric Carle. In it, a young hermit crab outgrows his shell and must find a new one. With the help of new sea creature friends, he decorates and enhances his new shell, learning about friendship and change along the way.
After reading the book (or watching the read-aloud above), it’s time to test your engineering skills by working together to build your own Crab Claw game! You can create this super-simple game and build yourself hours of fun by using supplies you may already have around your house!
You’ll need:
- paper cups
- straws
- craft pom poms
- a pencil
- scissors
Once you’ve gathered your supplies, let the games begin! Follow the instructions from CleverPatch below:
As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
We’ll see you right back here next Saturday for another STEAM Saturday activity! Scroll through the rest of our website to learn how Critchlow Adkins is Building Brighter Futures for the children and families we serve!
