Easter was last month, and we’re willing to bet that you might still have some jelly beans laying around your house. You can use these tasty treats to help your children develop their engineering skills. All you need to get your kiddos building are jelly beans and toothpicks!
There are many ways you can use these simple “ingredients” to spark your children’s imaginations.
For instance, you can give them each 100 jelly beans and 100 toothpicks and challenge them to build the tallest tower possible This could be a fun, friendly competition that the whole family can do together!
You could also teach them how to make building blocks (each block requires 8 jelly beans and 12 toothpicks). Once they have made their blocks, they can use them to build whatever they’d like. The sky’s the limit!
Get out the timer and challenge your kids to build a creation in a set period of time.
Ask them to build a flat structure, and then one that has dimension. Or, see if they can build a structure that is able to hold some weight.
There really are no rules – these are such versatile supplies that they can be used in many different ways!

As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
