A May STEAM project YOU can do at home!
Our students have been doing some really fun STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities this month, and we wanted to share one that you can do at home with your favorite kid! Start by reading the book After The Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) by Dan Santat.
This is a wonderful book about what happened to Humpty Dumpty after he fell off the wall. The book is told from his perspective and promotes self-esteem, determination, and courage. HERE is a read-along video that you can watch with your kiddo.
At our White Marsh Site, after the children read the book, their teacher, Miss Michelle, challenged them to use items from their STEAM boxes to:
1) Create a safer way for Humpty Dumpty to land, and/or
2) Make modifications to the wall where Humpty Dumpty was sitting so that he wouldn’t fall in the first place.
You can provide your child with a number of items from around your house with which to solve Humpty’s problem, such as: popsicle sticks, cotton balls, string, packing peanuts, rubber bands, paper, pipe cleaners, leftover grocery bags, and more. The options are endless!  Maybe you can get the whole family involved and make it a competition to see who can come up with the best solution!
As always, get as creative as you want, and above all else, have lots of fun learning together!Â
