April STEAM projects YOU can do at home!
April was a big month, full of holidays, events, and fun activities for our kids.
We want to share two of the awesome STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) projects that our students participated in this month so that you and your favorite kiddo can do them right at home!
In honor of Earth Day, the children in our Easton School Age Site read the book “One Plastic Bag – Isatou Ceesay and the Recycling Women of the Gambia.” We have provided a read along video HERE for you and your child to watch together.
This is the true story about a group of women in Njau, Gambia, who found a way to recycle the enormous accumulation of plastic bag trash in their community. They not only have helped clean up their community, but they created a business selling the purses they crochet using the bags!
Now it’s time to put your child’s problem-solving skills to the test. After reading the book, provide your child with some of your spare plastic bags from around your home and challenge them to turn them into something new.
Our students made a variety of items, including the bracelets shown here. How many new uses can your child find for your plastic bag trash?
We’re betting that you’ve got a nice collection of empty Easter Eggs sitting around your house. You and your child can put them to good use with a fun engineering project!
Using only plastic eggs and playdoh, challenge your kiddo to build the tallest possible tower. You can even up the stakes and get the whole family involved to see who can make the tallest tower. The sky’s the limit!
As always, get as creative as you want, and above all else, have lots of fun learning together!
