Making art with sidewalk chalk is one of the most fun activities for kids during the summer. Did you know that you can make your own sidewalk chalk with ingredients you probably already have laying around your house?
All you need is:
- Corn starch
- Food coloring
- Water
- 4-6 plastic bowls or a 6-muffin baking tin
- Paint brushes
In a large mixing bowl, add 3 cups of corn starch with 3 cups of water and mix until all the clumps are gone. Divide your mixture into 4-6 equal amounts and put into your bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl and mix well.
Make sure to stir your mixture frequently as you’re painting to keep the colors looking bright. As the mixture dries on the sidewalk or pavement, the colors will get more vibrant.
If you have paint left over, it can be stored in jars with tight lids for up to a few days. Just make sure to shake it well before using it!
Now you’re ready to create beautiful sidewalk masterpieces… Happy painting!
