STEAM Saturday – Sink & Float Water Experiment! (7/16/2022)

What goes perfectly with summertime heat?  WATER!!!  This Sink & Float Kitchen Water Experiment from Little Bins for Little Hands is an easy way to cool off when the weather is a bit too steamy.  Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A large vase or bowl
  • Anything you can find around the kitchen, such as:
    • Fruits and vegetables
    • Aluminum foil
    • Cans of soda
    • Sponges
    • Plastic and metal spoons
    • and more… Use your imaginations!

Fill the vase or bowl with water, and you and your child can learn about buoyancy and density by testing to see what floats and what sinks and why.  You can even see if changing the items in some way will change whether they float or sink.  For instance, try to float the aluminum foil as a sheet, and then crumple it up and try again.  What happens, and why?

As always, get as creative as you want, and above all, have lots of fun learning together!
