STEAM Saturday – Leprechaun Traps! (3-19-2022)

Welcome back to another STEAM Saturday activity!  We’re still celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, and it inspired us to share this awesome engineering challenge.  This week, have your kids build their own leprechaun traps!

This is a project where your child can let their creativity run wild.  This can be a timed project, or you can allow them to take as much time as they’d like.  You can set limits to the number or type of supplies they are able to use.  OR, they can use anything they find around the house – boxes, string, straws, toilet paper rolls, craft sticks… The sky is the limit!

Here are some ways in which you can prompt your child to get their creative juices flowing:

  • Before starting, think about how your trap will work.  Will your leprechaun fall into it, or will it drop on top of them?
  • What will your trap look like so that it lures a leprechaun into it?
  • How will you make sure the leprechaun cannot escape?
  • Once done, how can you improve upon your design so that it works better next time?

This idea was inspired by THIS POST by steamsational.com.
